alexander technique for riders

The Alexander Technique observes and addresses habits of chronic tension that have become a fixed part of how we move, breath, and participate in the world. These patterns are often unconscious and lead to inefficient biomechanics,
creating a myriad of symptoms ranging from reduced
coordination to debilitating pain. An Alexander Technique
teacher gently brings these tendencies of misuse to the surface of the student's awareness, and through a series of one-on-one, hands on lessons, the student learns to transform patterns of compression and tension into balance, stability, ease and expansiveness.
As riders, we are always looking to improve our horses, but rarely consider working on ourselves as a prerequisite. The Alexander Technique is an excellent method with which to improve your relationship with your horse both in and out of the saddle. Unconscious physical and mental habits often restrict both the integrity of our balance and the quality of our aids,
leading to disorganization and antagonism between horse and rider. The Alexander Technique brings us into alignment with ourselves, and therefore into alignment and unity with our horses.
